To My Friend Harry Who Longs To Retire

His name is Harry. He is real but I have elected not to use his real name. He is a CPA in Ohio. Has been for more than a quarter of a century. And he is good at it.

He contacted me about 4 years ago ... or is it 5. I forget. It just seems a long time ago. That's all.

Harry had subscribed to my newsletter (the one you are reading now). He revealed to me that his goal was to prepare his exit from the daily life of an active CPA to a more reasonable pace of living, doing what he loves doing the most. Helping people.

He told me in his first (lengthy email) that even as he was contemplating "retiring" from active duty, he was not ready to stop caring for his flock.

Harry has a lot to say, a lot to share, and a burning desire to continue being of service to society, especially to individuals who have trouble managing the little money they have.

And we all know by now that there are countless in this situation! Right?

Harry is on a mission. But . . .

Yes, there is a "but".

Harry can't seem to be able to get away from his job. Harry has a partner. Maybe his partner is not ready and Harry does not want to let him down.

Harry sends me a quick email, once or twice a year, to tell me that he is still seriously thinking about what he is going to do when he retires, and that he will join the happy prosperous bunch of SBIers . . . real soon now!

(A SBIer is someone who has implemented the SBI process to build a small rewarding online business - or rewarding occupation - for him/herself and family).

Harry is the perfect example of the procrastinator. (He has probably recognized himself by now because I know he reads all my newsletters. No offense meant, Harry. Honestly.)

If Harry really wanted to prepare his future life away from the daily work of a CPA - he could start now. He should start now!

SBI is a ten step process. The first five of those steps is almost exclusively on market research and analysis. The instructions on how to do so are in plain English. The necessary software tools, to do the data mining and analysis are extremely user friendly and well documented.

One can shallow dive or plunge into the pile of information just waiting to be dug out. One can dig for "gold" at one's own pace.

Harry could start now by getting the SBI process rolling for him. One small step at a time. In his spare time.

Harry is an intelligent man. He might be afraid of what he will find. I get the feeling that Harry is the type to commit himself fully, heart and soul, into whatever he undertakes.

Harry may be afraid of what he will find and of what it will demand of him.

Harry might be afraid to fall in love all over again, and of the commitment that means.

Harry, your future - your new way of life - is calling softly. Heed the call before it's too late for you to do something about it.

Harry, I can be a friend on top of a caring coach.

You have an audience waiting for your expert advice. Trust me.

P.S. Get a copy of "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. It's a short read and, as the cover says, "A vital gem...a kick in the ass". Not my words, Harry. They are Esquire magazine's! :-) Read the reviews. http://bit.ly/mMXfz1
