Let Your Passion Be Your Entrepreneur Idea

The most reliable and potentially profitable entrepreneur idea is passion driven. Out of all that you have done and learned up to now in life, identify what you are most passionate about. You can extract your online business idea from:

• work experience,
• a hobby,
• a special interest,
• a special skill.

However, your success will have a lot to do with the way you actually use your entrepreneur idea to build a business. Let me offer you the following guidelines.

1. Give (freely) all that you know about the object of your passion. Thus, you will know what to give … and people will admire you and be thankful for it. You are helping them out when you do.

2. Sell (at a reasonable price) whatever you consider above and beyond basic helpfulness. For example, give information on what solutions are already available. Make yours the best, most comprehensive, efficient solution, then sell it. After all, you are in business for profit, right?

What does passion have to do with going into business?

Well, we all go into business for profit. That's a "no-brainer"! But, believe me, you will not stay in business long if you do not positively love what you do.

If you do not fall asleep at night, eager to get up the next morning, it will only be a matter of time before your productivity falls. You are doomed to fail or, at best, make a painful living out of your business!

You should preferably be passionate about what your business is about. It is so much easier and fun this way. Besides, your passion will drive you to greater heights than anything else you can think of.

In addition, you will have no trouble at all generating advertising ideas that will successfully promote your entrepreneur idea. When you love what you do, it shows. When you are passionate enough about something, you are naturally inclined to communicate your passion to others. Your promotional ideas will flow naturally.

Please remember that money is a means, not a goal.

My own favorites

Allow me to draw a few entrepreneur ideas from my own experience to illustrate where one's online business idea can come from. These examples might spark your imagination, if you have difficulty identifying your passion (see the bullet list below).

I could easily build a business based on any one or a combination of these ideas. In fact, I did and still do.

I feel passionate enough about the following activities to spend hours on them without noticing. I do not consider myself working when I talk or write about them. I (almost) lose all track of time when I am doing anything directly related to the following:

My favorite hobbies

• Amateur radio (my station call sign is VE2DPE).

• Promoting one of my wife's many hobbies, her (our)
  Bed & Breakfast.

• Taking care of my Miata MX-5 roadster.

My favorite leisure activities

• Driving my roadster on winding roads in the countryside.
• RV camping and discovering new picturesque regions.
• Outdoor photography.
• Reading (… just about anything I can lay my hands on).

My favorite physical fitness activity

• Long brisk walks in the country with my wife. I take pictures of nice outdoor scenery, that my wife later uses as inspiration for her beautiful paintings.

My favorite volunteer work

• Helping individuals gain confidence in their capabilities.
• Promoting entrepreneurship and coaching aspiring web entrepreneurs (… I hear you … obviously!).

My favorite subjects from work experience

• Planning and project management (yes … I know … obviously!).
• Weather Information Specialist & Advisor (I retired from that job in 1997, but the old flame still burning strong …!).
• Analyzing and automating business processes (that's what the B.Sc.A. is about after my name).

Skills I love to make use of daily

• Bilingualism: French is my first language. (This link opens a new window! Your browser must be set up to accept popups from this site). This skill enables me to cater to a French target clientele that I would otherwise not be able to reach by speaking English exclusively … and vice versa.
• Writing (… yes, I know …!). This site is meant (in part) to be a representative sample of my writing (argumentative, persuasive essays).

The above can all serve as a potential entrepreneur idea. I have always taken great pleasure in living my life to the hilt. I simply love new challenges. You end up doing a lot of different things when you are like that!

To each his own

Of course, we are all individuals. The word itself implies that we are all different. Therefore, each one of us can come up with a unique entrepreneur idea. The uniqueness of your business idea will come from:

• Your unique experience,
• Your unique way of sharing your passion (your personality).

Each one of us has a passion for something(s). Some of us hold it in, until the time is ripe. Others live everything out with passion. Yet others concentrate on one and live happily ever after!

You must find out where you stand on the passion landscape. When you finally identify yours, and acknowledge it, you will have found the driving force that will propel your entrepreneur idea to success … given half a chance!
