Major News In The Site Builder Landscape

SOPA And PIPA In Plain Words

Any US citizen can claim that you, Web site owner somewhere in the world, have copied their content and are therefore guilty of violating copyright.

In such a case, any Web site owner in the world is deemed guilty until proven innocent. Said Web site owner is given no possibility to affectively appeal and is therefore doomed. The Web site allegedly guilty of infringing copyright simply disappears from the map!

Any Web site linking out - in good faith - to a Web site found guilty of allegedly violating copyright will also be wiped off the Net, with no effective recourse.

SOPA and PIPA are the equivalent to declaring war, unilaterally.

It's shoot first and never mind asking questions later!

It's the "wild, wild, West" all over again!

Just another example of the "blind, heavy handed approach".

SOPA and PIPA are unacceptable. Period.

Google Has Betrayed Our Trust

I am a positive forward looking kind of person. When confronted with a potentially negative situation, I always do my best to turn things around to have a positive effect on me.

This time, things are turning negative online, big time!

Google is doing the unspeakable. It is turning its back on a stellar reputation of striving to come up with the most reliable SERPs on the Web. (SERP means Search Engine Results Page).

As of a few days ago, Google began to serve up pages from it's own Google+ stock of pages ... instead of serving up the most relevant and informative Web pages, in response to searches made with the Google search engine.

The user of Google's search engine is being led to believe that the results from his/her search starts with the most relevant and useful Web pages that can be found on the Web.

Not any more.

And if you are also a publisher of content who painstakingly prepares reliable decision-making information for its intended audience, then you are even more shortchanged because Google is "pushing" its own stock of Google+ pages ... instead of the more relevant and useful ones - which it used to do so well in the past!

In other words, Google is now serving its own interest ... over those of its users!

Google can only believe that they can get away with that stunt because they know that they have a virtual monopoly on Web searches.

You do not have to stand there and take this abuse without doing something about it.

I will not. In fact, I have not.

First, I suggest that you do like me. Boycott Google's search engine. Use Bing.

Second, write your government elected representative. There are antitrust laws in many countries of this world. Ask your elected representatives to enforce them, where Google is concerned.

A monopoly is ok until it ceases to behave as a responsible corporate citizen.

Google is behaving as if our best interest is not their primary, or even their secondary concern anymore.

Google has betrayed our trust.

There. I feel better now that I have alerted you to this injustice.

Facebook Can Boost Or Kill Your Business

Has Facebook Gone Unsocial?

I wonder what prompted Facebook to take down SiteSell's Facebook page, allegedly without warning or explanation, apparently without any right to appeal against the.

This unilateral action goes against basic democratic values ... well, mine, at least.

SiteSell is the company I trusted, in 2005, to make my business efforts pay off. And SiteSell delivered, in spades!

SBI - the flagship product of SiteSell - guided tens of thousands of individuals, around the world, in creating and growing a rewarding online occupation into a small business. Some have grown to become quite substantial.

By over-delivering on that "cause" you will end up winning the trust and admiration of your intended audience.

Look around your neighbourhood. Look closely at the small businesses that thrive. Select the one you like the most, plumber, dentist, carpenter . . . whatever.

You will find that the one you admire the most is the one whose "cause" for being in business resonates the most with you! It's what makes that business stand out from its competition, for you.

The reason behind that specific business - its "cause" - will have earned your trust . . . and, ultimately, your business.

According to an article in Bloomberg Businessweek the number of "homepreneurs is growing.

The article states that "More than half of all U.S. businesses are based at home"!

One key reason is the much lower cost of operating from home, which translates into higher profits.

Lower operating costs also enables "homepreneurs" to offer goods and services at more competitive prices.
